Trust

Updated: Aug 13, 2023

How many of you have a difficult time trusting others? Trusting a friend, trusting a family member, trusting an employer, or trusting another co-worker I, for one, can raise my hand on that. I’ve always had a difficult time trusting because of the betrayals I've had over the years.

Proverbs 3:5–6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own understanding; in all ways know Him, and He will make your paths straight."

There are moments when we, as believers, want to solve our own problems. But how does this verse start? "Trust in the Lord", is not written as an option; it is written as a command. We need to trust Him 100%, not 50% or 75%; we need to trust Him 100%.

What is the definition of trust? It’s a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. Trusting Him means we have complete confidence in His wisdom, power, and goodness. We have complete confidence that He will provide for us. He will provide food when needed and money when needed. He will also provide confidants when we need them. Trusting in Him also means we have trust in Him even when it feels like our lives are spinning out of control.

When we trust Him, we will be able to stop the out-of-control feeling because we will remember He is in control. Sometimes we have to let go and let God do "his" thing. It’s not easy to trust something you cannot see; I understand that, but that is where your faith comes in. You cannot see the air you breathe; why do you trust it?

Can you think back on a circumstance where you thought you wouldn’t get out of what was going on? Did you worry and fret about it for days or even months? When you finally did get out of that predicament, did you ever think for one minute that God got you out of where you were? I didn’t; I always thought it was me. I did it.

Well, guess what? I know now that everything I’ve gotten myself into, God got me out of. I now know to trust him. I now know to trust Him with all my heart. No matter how much I want to do it myself, I have to remember the trust I have in Him.

Take a look back at your life. Take a look back at the different times you were in a circumstance and you got out of it, and redefine how you got out of it—it was Him. Trust him in every situation, good or bad.

Stay blessed and know God loves you!
