Jonah—everyone knows the story of Jonah; you know the story of how Jonah ran from God. He hopped on a boat to go to the furthest point away from God. There was a storm; the people on the boat threw him overboard, and he got swallowed by a big fish. He stayed in the big fish for 3 days and then spit it out onto the beach—the beach of the only place he didn’t want to be: Nineveh. Look at God!
How many of us have been just like Jonah? How many of us have run from what God wants us to do? How many of us run from the troublesome parts of our lives? I know I have. Only to find out in the end that I will do what God wants me to do. Running gets you nowhere, and nowhere really fast.
When you get a nudge or a whisper from God, don’t ignore it; act on it. Don’t be like Jonah and live in the belly of the fish, or, in today’s terms, guilt, shame, worthlessness, and depression. Listen to God and pray; you will be amazed at the doors that will open in your life if you do.
